A Festival of Lights & Celebrations!

Diwali is one of the most important and widely celebrated festivals in India and is recognised in various ways by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains around the world.

It marks an important chapter - signifying the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

For some it’s a sensory experience of lights, colours, flowers and gatherings with loved ones, friends or neighbours to share sweets, food and love. Many consider it to be a fresh start for a new year, dressing up in new clothes, exchanging gifts with one another and buying gold jewellery as part of the festivities. The traditional way of celebrating this occasion is by offering one’s prayers to the goddess of wealth ‘Lakshmi’ to bring good health and prosperity upon themselves and their families. Homes are decorated with ornate ‘Diyas’ (clay lamps), an array of hanging lights, fresh flowers and colourful ‘Rangoli’ designs (coloured powder). It’s an especially beautiful time in Indian culture where one can find themselves lost watching the skyline illuminate with glittering firework displays and buildings big or small covered in a variety of illuminated animation.

This year Diwali is celebrated on 24th October.
